Eckert's Moving and Storage was established under the name Eckert and Son's,
Inc. in 1953 by Paul Eckert, Sr. and his wife, Anna Mae Eckert.
Paul's experience in the industry goes back to the days before North
American Van Lines was a company. Paul worked for an agent in
Cleveland, Ohio; one of a group of agents sharing shipments based on where
each others individually owned trucks were.

When North American Van Lines bought their first company-owned truck, a 1938
Ford moving van, Paul Eckert was asked to be the first driver for the new
corporation. Paul was later given the task of finding a location for
the new company. This eventually led the company to its headquarters
in Ft. Wayne, Indiana

Eckert and Son's Inc. opened for business in 1953 at 400 N. Santa Fe in
Vista, CA. We had approximately 3000 sq ft of open storage
and 3000 sq. ft of palletized storage. We were the first moving
company to ever store household goods in enclosed pallets and stack
them. A full service fleet of moving trucks and vans to fit all needs
was also assembled.
|
We built our current location in 1967 and moved in 1968. We went from
approximately 3000 sq ft of open storage and 3000 sq ft of palletized storage
at the Vista location to 6000 sq ft of palletized storage. When we moved
to San Marcos our new warehouse was built tall enough to stack the vaults three
high for better space utilization. In 1969 we added another 5000 sq ft
warehouse. In 1971 we added another 12,500 sq ft warehouse and recently
(2000) we added another 8000 sq ft to our first building giving us a total of
31,500 sq ft of warehouse space.
